The Supplements I Buy on Repeat (From a Health Food Store Kid)

I grew up in a very health-conscious home. My mom, who will officially celebrate 50 years of owning her health food store in 2026, built her life around the belief that our health can change with the right knowledge and support.

Her story is wild — in the best way. As a kid, she was chronically sick: the third baby in three years, on constant antibiotics, and even facing a full hysterectomy in her early twenties. But instead of accepting that as her future, she chose to question everything and take her health into her own hands.

What happened next? She went on to have three healthy, planned pregnancies and raised three kids in a household that valued clean eating, holistic remedies, and vitamins.

Now that I’m a mom, I see the gift that upbringing really was.

So today I’m sharing the supplements I keep on hand, the ones I actually use, and what I’ve learned from being a health food store kid navigating life, parenting, nursing, and (hello) anxiety.

What we keep at home

Oscillococcinum

It’s a gentle homeopathic support that we take at the first sign of a cold or exposure. Although most of the time it’s taken when my toddler spontaneously wakes up with the flu — instantly the symptoms are at bay.

This one is always in our cabinet. My husband, toddler, and I will each take a full cap. (We tell our toddler its candy).
For the baby, I dissolve it in breastmilk or a bit of water.

Echinacea/Golden Root Homeopathic

We mostly use this for the baby when germs start floating around or she gets sniffles. It would also be great after we’ve been somewhere busy. It’s gentle, fast-acting, and doesn’t taste bad.

Immuplex + Congaplex (Standard Process)

Since I’m still nursing, I like to keep my immune system supported without taking anything too harsh. These are my go-to favorites that help me stay ahead of colds without feeling run down. Immuplex as a daily and congaplex when I start sniffles.

Anxiocalm (or as I call it, AnxiTAY)

This one isn’t for cold and flu season — it’s for the other real-life symptom: anxiety.
Since becoming a mom, I’ve experienced anxiety… in ways I never had before — especially when flying or traveling.
A little Anxiocalm and I feel like myself again.

💛 Honorable Mentions

These are my “when I’m not pregnant or nursing” go-to’s:

  • Golden Seal

  • Propolis

  • Zinc

  • Vitamin C
All are amazing for immunity and recovery support. I reach for them when I can take a fuller range of support.

A Note on Supplement Quality

If you’re new to the supplement world, here’s a tip from a lifelong insider:
Not all vitamins are created equal.

Cheaper vitamins (think drugstore brands) often contain more fillers and require higher capsule counts to meet the same nutrient levels found in one capsule of a professional-grade vitamin. That means:

  • Less effective absorption

  • More pills

  • And more “junk” your body has to process

That’s why we try to stick to brands my mom carries at the store — or at the very least, ones that use clean ingredients and transparent sourcing.

Where to Buy

(Supporting her is supporting 50 years of helping families feel better, naturally.)

If you’ve ever felt unsure about what to stock in your cabinet — or how to support your body while nursing, parenting, or living through toddler daycare germs — I hope this gives you a few tools to start with.

And hey, you can always text your mom for help too.
But if she doesn’t own a health food store or Doctorate degrees, I’ve got you.
